WHY IS DENTAL HYGIENE ESSENTIAL?

Prevent problems today to avoid extensive treatment tomorrow

Oral hygiene is the foundation of a healthy mouth and a bright smile. Regular check-ups allow for the early detection of abnormalities and treatment of problems before they become more complex. In addition to reducing the risk of cavities, periodontal disease and bad breath, it contributes directly to overall health: studies show a strong link between oral health, the cardiovascular system, digestion and immunity.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DENTAL HYGIENE

Everything you need to know before your appointment

Why is an annual check-up so important?

Because it allows early cavities to be detected and treated at low cost. An annual check-up costs around £100, whereas a tooth damaged to the point of requiring root canal treatment and a crown costs over £2,000.

Can a dental hygienist detect cavities?

Hygienists can detect cavities that are already open, i.e. at an advanced stage. They do not have the expertise of a dentist or the technical means to detect early-stage cavities (X-rays, magnifying glasses).

Is it painful?

It can be sensitive if it has been a long time since you had your teeth cleaned and there is a lot of inflammation (bleeding gums). However, it is always possible to call in the dentist for anaesthesia if necessary.

How often should scaling be done?

It depends on each individual, but at least once a year, or even twice.
